  • New Virginia statewide building code goes into effect March 1

    Building Design and Construction: After March 1, all building plans in Virginia must adhere to the 2009 code that was adopted a year ago. Among the code changes are: requirement for programmable thermostats, at least half of lighting fixtures must use energy efficient bulbs, and a mandate for mounted kitchen fire extinguishers for single family homes without sprinkler systems.

  • New N.C. energy codes go into effect

First is the new North Carolina Energy Conservation Code, which sets the building requirements for insulation, window and door ratings, lighting, power and water efficiency, and goes into effect in March.

The website, http://www.pima.gov/netzero, has a residential section and a commercial section for apartments, retail and offices with calculators based on the City of Tucson/Pima County Net-Zero Energy Standard.

    Residential Lighting magazine will host its second webinar on new legislation and its effect on lighting design with speaker Joe Rey-Barreau, AIA, on March 29.
